About HAS/HPAS Examination
What is the HAS Exam?
The Himachal Pradesh Administrative Services (HAS/HPAS) Examination is one of the most prestigious state-level civil service exams in Himachal Pradesh. Conducted by the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (HPPSC), it recruits candidates for Class-I Gazetted posts in the state administration.
Three Stages of HAS Exam
- Preliminary Examination: Objective type (Qualifying stage)
- Mains Examination: Descriptive type (Merit ranking stage)
- Personality Test: Interview (Final selection stage)
Successful candidates are appointed to powerful administrative roles such as SDM, DSP, BDO, Tehsildar, and Excise & Taxation Officer.

Stage 1: Preliminary Examination (Qualifying)

Stage 3: Personality Test (Interview)
Marks: 150
Evaluates leadership, communication skills, current affairs awareness (especially about Himachal Pradesh), and overall suitability for a career in administration.
Final Merit Calculation:
Mains (900 marks from best 6 papers) + Interview (150 marks) = 1050 Marks
Preliminary exam marks are not added to the final merit.
